Job Opportunities
If certified school counselors are unavailable for hire, Teachers on Assignment-Counselor Support are an option. To qualify for this position, the applicant must have a valid teaching certificate, along with passage of the Professional Education Exam and the General Knowledge Exam or a qualifying substitute. Optional, but preferred candidates are those with a year or less in their school counseling graduate program (interns). Candidates are not eligible for hire without at least a temporary certification. Interested candidates should create a profile on Applitrack to receive daily district job posting emails.

Certification Requirements
All certifications are approved through the Bureau of Educator Certification at FLDOE. The certification process can take months, so it is highly recommended potential or transferring counselors take all necessary exams as early as possible and submit test results and transcripts ASAP. Other counseling degrees aside from school counseling are not a direct transfer and often require candidates to take additional college coursework. These determinations are made by FLDOE, not the school district. Please see more information about certification requirements here.
