What is an Endorsement?

Endorsement Courses Overview

  • Endorsement courses offered through SJCSD are completed via our online learning center using the Moodle platform.  Though each course has specified du dates for all assignments, there are not scheduled synchronous meetings (except in very rare special circumstances).  Course information is emailed to participants from the facilitator no sooner than two days before the course start date in order to include all registrants.

Seeking credit from an outside provider- including a college?  Please follow the instructions at:

ESOL

  • Courses are also accepted from NEFEC and Schultz Center- it is your responsibility to seek schedules, pay fees, and send the certificate of completion in a timely manner.
  • 18-Hour Course specifically for therapists also available through FDLRS https://fl-pla.org search for English Learners course  This course is designed to provide speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists information to ensure English Language Learners in Florida’s public schools receive appropriate delivery of services per the requirements under the Florida Consent Decree.

  • Please note that participants are responsible for acquiring the books needed to complete Reading Competencies 1 and 2
    • Reading Competency 1:  Foundations of Reading Instruction

    • Reading Competency 2:  Application of Evidence-Based Instructional Practices
      • Artfully Teaching the Science of Reading

  • Reading Endorsement Offered through UF FLamingo Literacy Matrix- *You MUST register for these on the UFLI website – You must complete all five courses through UFLI to qualify
    • – upon completion- upload into BusinessPlus  the FINAL Verification of Participation with all five courses completed 
  • Courses are also accepted from NEFEC and Schultz Center- it is your responsibility to seek schedules, pay fees, and send the certificate of completion in a timely manner.

GIFTED

  • SJCSD GIFTED ENDORSEMENT – priority for participation will be given to those who are currently teaching students who have been identified as Gifted.
  • *NEW OPPORTUNITY for 2023-2024SY:  GIFTED ENDORSEMENT SUMMER BOOTCAMP*
    • Complete an entire 60-hour course in one week (You may take one course each week at no cost.  You may take an additional course for a fee of $75.)
    • All work is accessed and submitted online
    • No synchronous meetings
    • Four of the five Gifted Endorsement Courses offered
      • June 3-7, 2024:
        • Theory & Development of Creativity for the Gifted
        • Nature and Needs of Gifted Students
      • June 10-14, 2024:
        • Counseling of Gifted Students
        • Educating Special Populations of Gifted Students
    • Space is limited!  Registration is first-come, first-served!  Log into BusinessPlus and search by topic:  Gifted
    • You MUST be a current employee with active access to all systems in order to participate. 
    • You must hold valid Florida Teacher Certification to complete an Endorsement.

 

  • GIFTED Endorsement Course Offerings- NEFEC    *You MUST register for these on the NEFEC website – we qualify for the NEFEC District Price for these courses only

ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder)

SJCSD does not currently offer in-house courses in this area.  However, we accept the coursework offered through FDLRS.  Search at:  FDLRS/NEFEC

  • – upon completion- send certificate to the SJCSD  Professional Learning Department
  • PLEASE NOTE:  YOU MUST HOLD A CERTIFICATION IN AN ESE AREA ON YOUR FL TEACHING CERTIFICATE IN ORDER TO ADD THE ASD ENDORSEMENT
