Energy Star Scores

The ENERGY STAR score is developed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) using nationally representative data sets that include information on buildings in diverse locations and with varying physical and operational characteristics. First introduced in 1999, the Energy Star score has been adopted by leading organizations across the United States as it offers a simple way to evaluate measured energy use, prioritize investments and communicate relative performance across a range of buildings.

An ENERGY STAR score, expressed as a number on a 1-100 scale, rates performance on a percentile basis. Buildings with a score of 50 perform better than 50% of their peers while buildings earning a score of 75 or higher are in the top quartile of energy performance.

For example, PV-PV Elementary School’s Energy Star Score of 97 means this elementary school performs better than 97% of the elementary schools across the United States (for schools that report utility data to Energy Star/EPA).

Energy Star scores change every month (as soon as energy use for a building is updated and submitted to EPA).

To find the Energy Star score for any school in St Johns County School District, first open the All Facilities Map, then select a school from either the map or the list on the right.  The Energy Star score is listed in the “School Summary” next to the “Total Area” value.
