Florida Seal of Biliteracy

Why?

  • encourages the study of foreign languages
  • recognition for hard work
  • provide a postsecondary institution with a method of recognizing an applicant with biliteracy skills who is seeking admission to the postsecondary institution.
  • provide employers with a method of identifying an individual with biliteracy skills who is seeking employment
  • recognize and promote foreign language instruction in public schools
  • affirm the value of diversity, honor multiple cultures and strengthen the relationships between multiple cultures in a community.

How?
Students can qualify for the Florida Seal of Biliteracy in two main ways:

Coursework Path:

  • Complete 4 years of a world language in high school.
  • Maintain a qualifying GPA.
  • Achieve a qualifying score on the Grade 10 FAST ELA assessment.

Testing Path

  • Earn a qualifying score on an approved language proficiency exam (STAMPS4S, AP, IB, AICE).
