Home Education in Florida is parent-directed under Florida Statute 1002.41, allowing families the flexibility to select the curriculum, instructional materials, and learning pace that best meet their child’s needs. Families may choose from hundreds of educational options, including traditional textbook-based programs, cooperative learning groups (co-ops), dual enrollment opportunities, and virtual courses (St. Johns Virtual School recommended).

No. All materials needed for home educating a student are the parent/guardians responsibility.

No. Standardized tests such as the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (F.A.S.T) or an End-of-Course (EOC) exam are not required for home education students. However, the option to take a state standardized exam is provided through the school district by registering, using the applicable form found under the State Testing Information section of the SJCSD Home education website.

You may contact the SJCSD Home Education office or a local parent group to obtain the names of available evaluators.
