A student\u2019s residence is his or her current permanent residence of the student, parents or legal guardian(s).\u00a0 If a minor student\u2019s parents or legal guardians live in separate residences while sharing physical custody under the terms of a court-order or otherwise, the student may attend the school zoned for either residence with appropriate residency documentation.<\/p><p>The location of the student\u2019s residence determines the student\u2019s school zone and the school to which the student will be assigned, unless the student enrolls in another school in accordance with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/coe\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/122\/2017\/01\/Controlled-Open-Enrollment-Plan.pdf\">District\u2019s Assignment, Enrollment and Choice Plan<\/a>.<\/p><p><strong>Full and Complete Current Residency<\/strong><strong><br \/><\/strong>A person cannot have more than one permanent residence, and only the student\u2019s current residence as defined above may be used for enrollment purposes.<\/p><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/zoning\/\">The Attendance Zone Locator<\/a> should be used to determine the appropriate zoned school.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/schoolservices\/transfers\/\">Out of Zone Waiver information<\/a> is also available.<\/p><p><strong>Current students must update residency documentation before transitioning to kindergarten, middle school (6th grade) and high school (9th grade).<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fd15001 elementor-widget-divider--view-line elementor-widget elementor-widget-divider\" data-id=\"fd15001\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"divider.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-divider\">\n\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-divider-separator\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6bae636 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"6bae636\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Proof of Residency<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c57f5be elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c57f5be\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div>St. Johns County School District requires detailed proof of residency provided by a parent\/guardian or adult student. All documents must be current, valid, and include the residential address used for enrollment. data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>A student and his\/her parents cannot occupy a residence at more than one address, and only the student\u2019s current residence may be used for enrollment purposes.<\/p><p>If the student\u2019s permanent residence changes, notification and updated documentation must be provided to the school within 10 school days.<\/p><p>Following a move, the following items are evidence that the move is full and complete and a new residence has been established:<\/p><p>(a) The former residence is not occupied for any purpose at any time by the student or any of the persons with whom the student has been living; and<br \/>(b) All personal belongings are moved from the former residence; and<br \/>(c) Mail is received at the new residence; and<br \/>(d) All utilities are transferred to the new residence<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-57f6518 elementor-widget-divider--view-line elementor-widget elementor-widget-divider\" data-id=\"57f6518\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"divider.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-divider\">\n\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-divider-separator\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-66c4748 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"66c4748\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Residency Fraud<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ff63fc5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ff63fc5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Parent(s)\/Guardian(s) are committing residency fraud if they submit an address during the enrollment process that is not their true residence.<\/p><p>If there is reasonable suspicion that the student is not residing at the claimed address, the following procedures may be implemented at the discretion of the Superintendent or designee.<\/p><ul><li>A letter may be sent to parent(s) who have conflicting address information requesting that the parent verify and update enrollment information. This may be followed by a phone conversation or home visit.<\/li><li>The school staff may examine the Property Appraiser\u2019s website to determine the parent\u2019s homestead (permanent residence) location. The homestead address of the parent will be used as a factor to determine the student\u2019s zoned school. A conflicting address indicates that further investigation is required.<\/li><\/ul><p>If it is determined that the student is attending a school outside of their zone, the student shall be withdrawn by the school and must be registered and enrolled in the appropriate zoned school.<\/p><p><strong>In all cases the Superintendent or designee reserves the right to make an independent investigation and to make the final determination as to the residence of a student.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f9a5669 elementor-widget-divider--view-line elementor-widget elementor-widget-divider\" data-id=\"f9a5669\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"divider.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-divider\">\n\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-divider-separator\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-36cad7c elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"36cad7c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Guardianship<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-075baae elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"075baae\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Pursuant to School Board Rule 5.05(1)(e), when a student resides with a person who is not the student\u2019s parent seeks to enroll in school, the student shall present a court order appointing the person with whom they reside as either their legal guardian or legal custodian or shall present other proper documentation from a state or federal agency placing the child with the person with whom they reside.<\/p><p>In the absence of a court order or proper documentation from a state or federal agency placing the child with the person whom they reside, the following documents may be accepted for school registration purposes:<\/p><ul><li>A written, notarized consent from the parent or legal guardian<br \/>AND<\/li><li>Documentation from the Clerk of Courts showing that a Concurrent Custody or Temporary Guardianship petition has been filed<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c3b2a64 elementor-widget-divider--view-line elementor-widget elementor-widget-divider\" data-id=\"c3b2a64\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"divider.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-divider\">\n\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-divider-separator\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-aee58ac elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"aee58ac\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Homeless<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ef7d318 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ef7d318\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Homeless children shall have access to a free public education in St. Johns County schools and will be admitted to a school in accordance with School Board Rule 4.18, based on the McKinney-Vento Act governing education of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/homeless\/\">homeless students<\/a>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e7548a1 elementor-widget-divider--view-line elementor-widget elementor-widget-divider\" data-id=\"e7548a1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"divider.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div 39, Florida Statutes, shall be assigned by the Superintendent to the school best meeting the special needs of the student in consultation with the Department of Children and Family Services or such
