Gloria Gatewood, executive secretary for the St. Johns County School District’s (SJCSD) Budget Department, has been named St. Johns County’s 2012-2013 School-Related Employee of the Year. Her selection was announced by Superintendent Dr. Joseph Joyner at a reception held Tuesday, March 19 at First Coast Technical College.
Gatewood was selected from 41 nominees for her exemplary job performance, dedication, interpersonal skills, leadership ability, training to upgrade skills and contributions to the school and district environment.
She has been employed as an executive secretary in the Budget Department for nine years, and has worked for the SJCSD for 25 years. Her commitment to professional development is evident in the more than 20 training sessions, conferences, seminars and continuing education classes she has taken throughout her career. She has an integral role in the budget development process as well as in the day-to-day operations of the budget office and executes her duties with professionalism and mastery.
“I can truly say that I have never met anyone as dedicated and detail-oriented as Mrs. Gatewood,” said Darrell Colee, director of budget for the SJCSD. “Her strong character and commitment to the school district make her an excellent choice for this honor.”
Gatewood possesses exemplary interpersonal skills and is always willing to help others whether at work or throughout the community. Her enthusiasm for learning and developing her skills is an area where she has excelled and she regularly shares her knowledge with her coworkers.
Gatewood’s name has been forwarded to the Florida Department of Education where she will compete at the regional level.
