What lessons will be taught and when?
\n<\/strong>Each school will work independently to determine at what point in the year these lessons will be taught.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mental & Emotional Health Education \u2013<\/strong> The 5-hour requirement in Rule 6A-1.094124, F.A.C.<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>is not mandatory for our K-5 students.\u00a0 However, we will continue as we previously have to provide mental and emotional health education throughout their school experience.<\/span><\/p>\n

Substance Use & Abuse Education \u2013 <\/strong>The requirements in Rule 6A-1.094124, F.A.C.<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>do apply to our K-5 students.\u00a0 Per School Board Rule \u2013 Chapter 4.00 \u2013 The Curriculum 4.02(13) states that \u201cStudents at all appropriate levels will be given instruction regarding the harmful effects of alcohol, tobacco, and drug abuse.\u201d This is achieved through lessons integrated into the curriculum, activities during Red Ribbon Week, and collaboration with community agencies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Child Trafficking Prevention Education \u2013 <\/strong>The requirements in Rule 6A-1.094124, F.A.C.<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<\/a>do apply to our K-5 students.\u00a0 These lessons will be age and developmentally appropriate.\u00a0 Each school will utilize Lauren’s Kids<\/a><\/strong> or Child Safety Matters<\/a><\/strong> to provide this age appropriate curriculum.<\/span><\/p>\n

What if my child is absent?
\n<\/strong>Absences will be treated the same as any other excused or unexcused absence.\u00a0 You may review the Student Code of Conduct<\/a><\/strong> for more information on absences.<\/span><\/p>\n

Can I opt my child out of the lessons?<\/strong>
\nNo, since it is part of state required instruction in statute and board rule.<\/p>\n

Will these lessons be age appropriate?
\n<\/strong><\/span>Lessons provided will be age and developmentally appropriate.<\/span><\/p>\n
