{"id":196,"date":"2019-12-17T09:57:54","date_gmt":"2019-12-17T14:57:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/mh-instruction2\/?page_id=196"},"modified":"2019-12-17T09:58:35","modified_gmt":"2019-12-17T14:58:35","slug":"homeless-students","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/mental-health\/homeless-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Homeless Students Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Every Child Has the Right to an Education<\/h3>\n<p>The federal\u00a0<strong>McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act<\/strong>, as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), ensures that each homeless child and youth has equal access to the same free, appropriate public education, including a public preschool education, as other children and youth.<\/p>\n<p>Homeless children and youth must have access to the educational and other services that they need to enable them to meet the same challenging State student academic achievement standards to which all students are held. In addition, homeless students may not be separated from the mainstream school environment based on homelessness alone.<\/p>\n<p>Children and youth who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence are considered homeless. If, due to a loss of housing, a child must live in a shelter, motel, vehicle, or campground, on the street, in abandoned buildings, or doubled-up with relatives or friends, then he\/she is eligible to receive services provided under the McKinney-Vento Act.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-197\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/mental-health\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/146\/2019\/12\/assist-logo.png\" alt=\"A.S.S.I.S.T Logo\" width=\"627\" height=\"330\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/mental-health\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/146\/2019\/12\/assist-logo.png 627w, https:\/\/www.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/mental-health\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/146\/2019\/12\/assist-logo-300x158.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 627px) 100vw, 627px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>The SJCSD A.S.S.I.S.T.
