The annual 60-day Legislative Session begins on March 5 and is shaping up to be an active year as committees in both the House and Senate are currently meeting. With the recent release of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission’s recommendations report, school safety issues will remain a top priority as the legislature revisits last year’s response to the tragedy in Parkland.
In addition, with new leadership in both the Executive and the Legislative branches we will be closely following the developments of the recently elected state-wide administration, along with the newly appointed Commissioner of Education, former Speaker of the House of Representatives Richard Corcoran.
For detailed information on last year’s school safety bill (SB 7026), and to find committee membership lists, contact information and additional advocacy resources, including a copy of the district’s legislative platform, please the Government Relations website.
Government Relations is always working to involve more administrators, teachers, and parents in advocating for the district. If you have a group of faculty or a PTO who would like more information on how to effectively communicate with elected officials and advocate for the priorities of the district, please contact Colin Kirkland via email or by telephone at 547-7673 to set up a presentation.
