{"id":82,"date":"2015-04-06T13:53:07","date_gmt":"2015-04-06T17:53:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/ese\/?page_id=82"},"modified":"2021-02-04T10:54:51","modified_gmt":"2021-02-04T15:54:51","slug":"ot-pt","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/ese\/programs\/ot-pt\/","title":{"rendered":"Occupational &amp; Physical Therapy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>St. Johns County provides <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/ese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2015\/04\/Educationally-relevant-therapy.pdf\">educationally\u00a0relevant\u00a0occupational\u00a0and\u00a0physical\u00a0therapy\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>as related services to eligible students who require these services to benefit from specially designed instruction.<\/p>\n<p>Occupational therapy includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>improving, developing, or restoring functions impaired or lost through illness, injury, or deprivation;<\/li>\n<li>improving ability to perform tasks for independent functioning if functions are impaired or lost; and<\/li>\n<li>preventing, through early intervention, initial or further impairment or loss of function.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Occupational therapists work mainly on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/ese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2015\/04\/Fine-Motor-Skills.pdf\"><strong>fine motor skills<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/ese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2015\/04\/Handwriting-Skills.pdf\"><strong>handwriting<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/ese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2015\/04\/Scissor-skills.pdf\"><strong>scissor skills<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/ese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2020\/12\/Visual-Motor-Skills.pdf\"><strong>visual motor skills<\/strong> <\/a>and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/ese\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/26\/2020\/12\/Sensory-Processing-Skills-1.pdf\">sensory processing skills<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Physical therapy includes improving, developing, or restoring function of the large muscles of the body used for walking, running, sitting and other activities.
