What is Controlled Open Enrollment (COE)?<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-4181\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"1\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-4181\"><p><span style=\"color: #000080\"><strong>A: <\/strong>The St. Johns County School District offers additional school choice options through Controlled Open Enrollment.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000080\">In accordance with Florida Statute 1002.31, Controlled Open Enrollment allows any student who resides in the State of Florida to apply to attend a school that is not assigned to them based on their residential address. Each Florida school district is required to adopt a Controlled Open Enrollment plan that permits parents to enroll their child in any public school that has not reached capacity, provided the parent assumes responsibility for transportation.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-toggle-item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-title-4182\" class=\"elementor-tab-title\" data-tab=\"2\" role=\"button\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-4182\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-toggle-icon elementor-toggle-icon-left\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-toggle-icon-closed\"><i class=\"fas fa-caret-right\"><\/i><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-toggle-icon-opened\"><i class=\"elementor-toggle-icon-opened fas fa-caret-up\"><\/i><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a class=\"elementor-toggle-title\" tabindex=\"0\">2. How is capacity determined? <\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-4182\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"2\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-4182\"><p><span style=\"color: #000080\"><strong>A:<\/strong> A determination of available schools, is made every 12 weeks and will be posted on the school district\u2019s website. This is done by comparing the enrollment at each school to the permanent building capacity. If enrollment is less than 90% of the building capacity, a school is placed on the controlled open enrollment list.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000080\"><em style=\"font-weight: inherit\">Since Pre-Kindergarten (PK) programs are not mandatory, Controlled Open Enrollment options are not available for VPK students.\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-toggle-item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-title-4183\" class=\"elementor-tab-title\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"button\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-4183\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-toggle-icon elementor-toggle-icon-left\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-toggle-icon-closed\"><i class=\"fas fa-caret-right\"><\/i><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-toggle-icon-opened\"><i class=\"elementor-toggle-icon-opened fas fa-caret-up\"><\/i><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a class=\"elementor-toggle-title\" tabindex=\"0\">3. What is the application process and lottery selection?<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-4183\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-4183\"><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>A: <\/strong>Applications are available on the school district\u2019s website during the designated enrollment window. One application must be submitted for each applicant, and families may select up to three schools. The parent\/guardian must accept and enroll the student in the specified school for the designated start date. If selected for a COE school, an IEP team will convene to determine whether the student\u2019s needs can be appropriately met and whether the IEP can be implemented at the selected school.
