{"id":87,"date":"2015-04-09T09:27:57","date_gmt":"2015-04-09T13:27:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/arts\/?page_id=87"},"modified":"2024-03-19T08:44:11","modified_gmt":"2024-03-19T12:44:11","slug":"high","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/arts\/high\/","title":{"rendered":"High School Arts Curriculum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/arts\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2015\/04\/SAHS-Guitar-at-PVHS-web.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-88 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/arts\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2015\/04\/SAHS-Guitar-at-PVHS-web.jpg\" alt=\"SAHS Guitar at PVHS web\" width=\"640\" height=\"335\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/arts\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2015\/04\/SAHS-Guitar-at-PVHS-web.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/arts\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2015\/04\/SAHS-Guitar-at-PVHS-web-300x157.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><strong>Access to the Arts at the High School Level 9-12<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are two distinct learning paths available for high school students to pursue their interest in the performing and visual arts. *<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Visual and performing arts elective courses are available at all St. Johns County School District high schools, except St Johns Technical High School.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Courses offerings may include band, chorus, dance, theatre and visual art.<\/li>\n<li>Not all courses are offered at all schools.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Students who are interested in pursuing an Arts Program of Study are encouraged to apply to the St. Johns County Center for the Arts (SJCCA) at St. Augustine High School.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>SJCCA offers four strands of arts focus: Dance, music (band, jazz, vocal\/chorus, guitar, orchestra and piano), theatre (acting, musical theatre, and theatre tech) and visual art (2D, 3D, and digital design).<\/li>\n<li>Students who are not zoned for St. Augustine High School must apply\u00a0to attend SJCCA at SAHS.<\/li>\n<li>Applications for SJCCA\u00a0are available to rising 9th and 10th grade students. Applications and additional information for SJCCA are generally made available on the St. Augustine High School website at the beginning of the second semester. The SJCCA website is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sjcca.org\/\">www.sjcca.org<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>*<\/strong>IB, AICE and AP Art History are offered at select schools.<\/p>\n<p>Students in the performing and visual arts programs participate in many community events including local and regional fairs, parades\u00a0and festivals, competitions, and showcase performances. Our district has a long-standing history of student musicians being selected to perform in various All-State ensembles each year. SJCSD has proudly partnered for 15 years with the St. Augustine Art Association which hosts an annual juried All-County High School Art Show each March,\u00a0with various awards in multiple mediums. Additionally, large numbers of our students each year are awarded for their participation in annual events such as the North Florida Scholastic Art Awards, Art Works, FAEA Virtual Exhibit\u00a0and\u00a0others.
