Dear Parents and Families,
Our students, staff, parents and the community in general, have just experienced a traumatic event. As many of you strive to create a sense of normalcy or just a new normal, the district has received many calls and emails on what days will be designated to make up the time lost from school due to Hurricane Matthew.
We are fortunate in our district that our calendar is developed to significantly exceed the number of required instructional hours. For this reason the three make-up days needed for Hurricane Matthew will be absorbed by the existing time we have within the school day. There will be no holidays or teacher planning days used to make up this time and I am convinced this is the right thing to do for our school district.
There may be additional adjustments at some schools, but none will require taking an already designated “hurricane make up day” to use.
Please know that careful thought went into this decision and foremost was the clear understanding of what our students, staff, parents and community had just experienced.
