New Hire Learning Opportunities

Welcome to St. Johns County School District!

Throughout the school year, we offer various learning opportunities specifically designed for new teachers and teachers who are new to SJCSD.

 

 

New Teacher Toolbox:  This is a monthly  learning opportunity with a specific focus.  Most sessions will be led by representatives from various District Departments such as AIS, SSA/MTSS, ESE, Curriculum, GRACE, etc.

Summer Institute for Novice Teachers

This opportunity is targeted for teachers who have just completed their first year teaching in SJCSD, or who are still in their first 3 years of teaching; however, all SJCSD teachers are welcome!

WHAT Join us for six hours of reflection and learning focused on three areas identified from the Professional Development Needs Assessment Survey completed in February 2022:

  1. Working With Non-Traditional Learners
    • An in-depth hands-on session working with IEPs, 504s, ELL Plans, and EPs to identify and explain accommodations and how to intentionally plan for them with a clarification of what the MTSS/RtI Process is REALLY!
      • Directly Aligns to FTEM Domain 1:  Elements 1, 2, &3; Domain 3:  Element 20
      • Directly Aligns to PLC Questions 1, 2, 3, and 4
  2. Digital Learning and Monitoring Tools
    • This session will focus on free, District-approved high-tech and low-tech tools that will both increase student cognitive engagement and monitor for learning
      • Directly Aligns to FTEM Domain 1:  Elements 1, 2, &3; Domain 2:  Elements 5-11; Domain 3:  Elements 18 & 20
      • Directly Aligns to PLC Questions  2
  3. Classroom Management and Engagement
    • Due to popular demand, this session will infuse both the opportunity to reflect on the successes and challenges that participants have experienced and provide research-based proven strategies to create a classroom community that proactively diffuses possible negative behaviors through high-yield engagement and student-focused instructional techniques
      • Directly Aligns to FTEM Domain 2:  Elements 5-11; Domain 3:  Elements 16 – 20
      • Directly Aligns to PLC Questions  2
  • Earn 6 hours of inservice credits towards certification renewal
  • Earn $20/hour recommended rate of pay (total $120= 6 hours x $20/hr)
  • Get a head start on preparing for next school year!
