Carly Miller, an eighth-grade student at Swiss Point Middle School, won the 2018 St. Johns County School District (SJCSD) Spelling Bee held January 17 at First Coast Technical College. She won by spelling the word “piccolo” correctly. Carly is the daughter of Carrie and Jeramie Miller.
From Jan. 17 through Feb. 12, District employees may request that their child attend the school in which they work, or the school within closest proximity of their work location. Renewal of previously approved hardship requests will be accepted starting on January 23. Parents submitting first-time hardship requests and new employees hired for the 2018-2019 school year may submit their hardship requests starting on March 20.
Students from St. Augustine High School and St. Johns Technical High School hosted and presented colors at the Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration Breakfast on January 15th at the National Guard Armory. The District continues to monitor enrollment numbers for the 2017-2018 school year. Currently, there are 40,357 students enrolled. This represents a growth of approximately 4.4 percent.
St. Johns County School District's Five-Year District Facilities Work Plan includes major capital outlay construction projects planned for the five-year period of 2017-2022.
The School District conducted an intensive process of community collaboration, which began with three Town Hall Meetings this past September. After much community input and the development of multiple plans, the School Board approved the attendance zones changes on November 14, 2017.
In an effort to provide parents of ESE students with trainings to increase their ability to actively participate and collaborate with a comprehensive school team, the Exceptional Student Education Department in partnership with FDLRS and NEFEC will offer Facilitated IEP Training for Parents on Tuesday, January 16th from 6pm to 7pm at the Fullerwood Training Center.
The St. Johns County School District High School Showcase helps families learn more about the Programs of Choice which are available at each high school. This year, the High School Showcase will be held Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 3:30 – 7:00 pm at the World Golf Village Convention Center.
In this holiday edition of the Superintendent Spotlight, Superintendent Tim Forson and School Board Member Bill Mignon share the many ways in which our schools are contributing to our local and global community during this season of giving.
In December, the school community at Alice B. Landrum Middle School collected 260 "Shoeboxes of Love" which they will be donating to City Rescue Mission, a Jacksonville-based organization which serves the homeless and needy of Northeast Florida.
