Entitlement and Competitive Grants Information10272006_100743_0.png
St. Johns County Schools is continually in pursuit of opportunities that will lead to additional funding for programs that will meet and address the efforts of the St. Johns County Schools Strategic Plan. Most of the documents that will be provided will be in a PDF format and you as a reader will need to download the Adobe Acrobat Reader. On the right you will see a link to download this free software.

MISSION
The mission is to maximize resources available to the school district in order to improve educational opportunities which improve student learning, support the school improvement plans, and to ensure accountability in the use of those resources. School Board employees seeking school grants from external sources must obtain approval from the district prior to submitting a grant proposal. Teachers may apply for some grants to obtain specific items for classroom use without district approval. Grants that go to the Board need to be processed at least several weeks before their due date.
Questions about whether a grant needs to be approved by the district before applying may be referred to Donna Lueders (904) 547-7560.

FUNCTIONS
.Disseminate grant funding opportunities from local, state, federal and private sources to schools and the district;
.Providing technical assistance, proposal review, and writing assistance;
.Coordinate inter-departmental grant proposal development;
.Submit grant proposals to funding agencies on behalf of schools and the district;
.Produce various reports and publications for the School Board, the district, and schools;
.Monitor federal legislation, appropriations and regulatory actions that affect grant programs;
.Assist with development/submittal of grant program performance reports to agencies.

GRANT APPLICATION QUESTIONS TO ANSWER BEFORE SUBMITTING A GRANT
Schools and/or departments that would like to secure a grant from an external funding agency should ask themselves the following questions:
1.Have I discussed the idea with, and received approval from, the school principal or department director?
2.Have I determined that the proposal supports school improvement plans and supports the District Goals?
3.Have I contacted any district department that this grant will impact to ensure their support of the grant?

GRANT INFORMATION
Donna Lueders, St. Johns County Education Foundation and Grants Coordinator, is the point of contact for all competitive grants.  The SJCEF is part of the Community Relations Office under the direction of Margie Davidson.  Grant proposals should include plans for instructional impact, not just requests for money. Prior to developing a proposal to submit to an external funding source, a school should conduct a needs assessment. All grant objectives should be measurable and must tie into School Improvement Plans.
All proposals should be contingent on quantifiable school/district needs and should not be initiated to supplement the operating budget.
Grant proposals must be School Board approved.
All external grants awarded to the school district obligate the School Board and School District to follow through with specific actions. Therefore, School Board approval is necessary and is a required step.
All external grants that a school intends to pursue, even those that are initiated by the schools themselves, must be submitted to the district prior to submission to the funding agency.
Assist in the grant development process as specific grant proposals will need school and/or district staff to be part of the writing process. Experience with grant writing is not a requirement to submit a grant.
