History of RSVP

RSVP began in 1969 as one of the federal action programs. In Florida there are 34 RSVP programs. RSVP in St. Johns County began 20 years ago and has been sponsored by the St. Johns County School District for over 15 years.

Currently RSVP of St. Johns County has over 750 active volunteers serving over 60 community organizations. In 2005, RSVP gave the community more than 118,000 hours of service. This is equivalent to a savings of over $2,000,000.00. for St. Johns County.

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is part of the federal National Senior Service Corps., and is sponsored locally by the St. Johns County School District. Special funding is received from the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners.

Our organization, RSVP of St. Johns County, is funded through the National Senior Service Corps, Corporation for National and Community Services. Funding for RSVP calls for extensive reporting from the Director, and required data is gathered throughout the year to satisfy grant funding requirements. This data is gathered from all sources including volunteers and stations.

RSVP is committed to supplying volunteers age 55 and better with satisfying opportunities to share their experience and skills while meeting the critical needs of our community.
