Carla Wright was born in Loma Linda, California and she grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Lima, Peru, where she danced as a soloist with the Peruvian National Ballet.  Her family returned to the U.S. and settled in St. Augustine, Florida.  Carla attended Ketterlinus High School and Florida State University; graduating with a B.A. in Advertising Design and Fine Art.  She worked as a graphic designer and art director for firms in New York and Ft. Lauderdale.  While in Ft. Lauderdale, Carla attained the position of Head Teacher of the Imperial Studios of Ballet and the Atlantic Foundation for the Performing Arts, and in a later move to Houston as graphic designer for Exxon Co., USA, Carla taught classical ballet for the Houston Ballet Foundation.

Carla later returned to St. Augustine with her husband Tom Wright and daughter Jennie Post, where she served as Chairman of the St. Augustine Historic Preservation Advisory Committee; Chairman of the Historic Architectural Review Board (HARB), member of the St. Augustine Historic Society, Sister Cities Association, The Presidio Commission, and the American Association of University Women.  Carla is currently on the Board of Directors of the Florida School Boards Insurance Trust; on the Board of the Betty Griffin House and serves as the St. Johns County School Board representative to the Value Adjustment Board.

Mrs. Wright was appointed to a vacancy on the St. Johns County School Board in 2001; she was elected in 2002 and re-elected in 2004 and 2008.
