The Florida Hospital Association recognized Flagler Hospital with the 2010 Healthcare Career Promotion Award at the FHA Annual Meeting in Orlando on Wednesday. The award is designed to honor hospitals that are exemplary in their promotion of health careers and this year the FHA specifically recognized the innovation and success of the Flagler Hospital Academy of Medical and Health Careers at Pedro Menendez High School. Patricia D. Moore, Vice President of the Flagler Life Institute -- Flagler Hospital's education and research department -- was on hand to accept the award.

"It is truly an honor to be recognized by the Florida Hospital Association for our work with Pedro Menendez High School," said Moore. "The Life Institute philosophy is focused on increasing knowledge through education as the cornerstone of achieving excellence.

The Health Career Academy is just one of many creative initiatives we have developed in cooperation with local educational institutions to inspire passion for health care careers and to ensure the highest levels of clinical excellence in our community."

The Flagler Life Institute provides comprehensive educational services for hospital employees, establishes education-related community outreach programs and partners with institutions to foster health care careers and continuing education opportunities.

The Flagler Hospital Academy of Medical and Health Careers was established at Pedro Menendez High School in 2007 and earned full accreditation from the National Career Academy Coalition in May 2010.

The program offers academic classes integrated with life and workplace skills, a curriculum focused on meeting college entrance requirements, work-based opportunities that tie learning to internships and on-site training at Flagler Hospital.
