Career Academy receives National Recognition
<  St. Johns Career Academy team attends National Career Academy Coalition conference in Austin, Texas in Nov. 2010.  St. Johns County Aerospace Academy at St. Augustine High School (SAHS) was designation as a National Model Career Academy.

The Career Academies were well represented with two teams presenting.  Gail Cullum, Embry Riddle instructor at the Aerospace Academy, presentation entitled, "Inspring Students to Choose Engineering" was a huge success.  The SAHS Academy of Future Teachers instructors, Katie Malby and Daryl Cullipher, presented their successful approaches to Service Learning projects within their academy.  The Future Teachers have focused on "going green" with projects designed to help the local community's efforts with beach erosion.  Students created poetry books using the coastal theme and presented them to their elementary reading buddies.

Guest Speaker Spotlight:
Lance Hackelton, Taylor Engineering,
talks about GIS

Academy of Environmental & Urban Planning at Creekside High School
Mr. Lance Hackelton from Taylor Engineering came in to talk to several classes in the CHS Academy of Environmental and Urban Planning.  He informed us of the different branches of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and how it can be used in various  jobs. This speaker definitely helped us consider having GIS-based jobs in the future.  Did you know GIS creators developed Google Earth's flight simulator?

VyStar Summer Interns

Twenty four career academy students from Bartram Trail's VyStar Academy of Business and Finance and Pedro Menendez's VyStar Academy of Business and Finance are in the midst of a 10-week summer training program.  These 24 students are experiencing branch management training at the VyStar corporate headquarters, the Julington Creek Branch, the Mandarin Branch and the St. Augustine Branch. The interns will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Bear Branch located on the BTHS and PMHS campuses.
Noah D., Branch manager at the VyStar Academy of Business and Finance at Pedro Menendez reports, "We are blowing the other schools out of the water."

We opened 70 new accounts.

We ordered 24 new debit/ATM cards  (That is more than the Vystar Credit Unions at Bartram Trail and Fleming High Schools combined!!)

This credit union is run by students in the PMHS Vystar Academy of Business and Finance.
