Media Releases: September 12, 2003
This is to notify parents and guardians of
students in the St. Johns County School District and adult
students of the publication of annual directory information
and of their right of refusal to have personally identifiable
information released during the school year.
Persons wishing to exercise this right should respond in writing within ten
days of this notice requesting that personal information with respect to the
adult student or pupil under age 18 not be published. This would include the
student’s name, address, telephone number, date and place of birth, major
field of study, participation in officially recognized activities and sports,
weight and height of members of athletic teams, dates of attendance, degrees
and awards received, and the most recent educational agency or institution
previously attended by the student.
The school district does not publish an annual directory; however, individual
schools may publish school directories for student use.
All or part of the directory information will be released as honor roll lists,
team rosters, scholarship recipients, etc. or may be released to military representatives.
During the school year students also may participate in activities which are
photographed, videotaped or electronically transmitted. Photos are often displayed
on bulletin boards or used in school/community publications or web sites. Videos
may be broadcast via closed circuit television or used for viewing at a meeting
related to school activities. Students also often ask for duplicate copies
to take home for their own collections.
If anyone has objections to his or her child appearing in a photo or video
for public view, please notify, in writing, the child’s school or the
St. Johns County School District in care of James Welu, Director of Student
Services, 40 Orange Street, St. Augustine, FL 32084. If a written response
is not received, it will be assumed that permission is granted.
Additional information may be obtained by calling 819-7597.
